I never posted this... it was a piece I did as a reflection of the time I spent in Portugal (summer 2009). It's a pretty big piece... and more of a fine art piece than illustration, but I like it! Collaged maps, acrylic, pen, acrylic paint on acetate, and thread on paper.

After basically forgetting that the blogging world existed, I'm back.

I've been working on Thesis and I've been letterpressing 24/7. I should have good pictures soon. My camera is on hiatus, but soon I will have nice images of what my letterpress prints look like.

These are 3 letterpress prints I did for my thesis. A 10x10 and two 8x10s.

Concepts II Final

I created a brand called charm (ing) city and these are just some of the products that have come from it.

The illustrations in the pattern I did. This pattern could be a gift wrap, wall paper, or even fabric.

I am thinking I might want to switch out the part that says "Greetings From Baltimore" for the charm (ing) city logo instead. I think that would make more sense and just look better.

I worked on a cookbook all semester for The Illustrated Book. It was really fun once I got into it. I really like the results. There are 16 spreads and I tried to open them all and my computer froze up, so I am just going to upload a few! You'll have to ask to see the rest.

There are fifteen recipes and they all have different patterns behind the illustrations of the food that are modern representations of ancient patterning from that country. Some of this food is very delicious.

On the first day of my Concepts II class, my teacher handed us each a blank story book. We wrote the beginning of a story, and passed it to someone else. Every week we each have to illustrate what has been written, then turn the page and write next part of the story for the person who has it next week to illustrate. This past week was spring break, and whichever book we had, we got to finally do the cover for! I had a book that was about Nikola Tesla looking for love. Here is what I came up with.

It has been a while since I have updated, but here are some projects I have done recently for concepts.

Pattern Workshop

Mood board for wrapping paper project, I was assigned the baby shower theme.

Here is the design I came up with. I kind of like it without color.

My design as a pattern. I need to really work on this, it needs a lot more movement. I am going to change the actual style of repeat that it is, and work on the colors, while also making the words bigger.

Another form of gift wrap, without repeat patterning, of course.

I know this is extremely delayed, but here are some of the final things I did with Independent Study this past semester. Oh, and I made the deans list! Now I know I am capable of still doing well with 6 classes, 18 credits, and a lot of stress.

This was my final project, the part that wasn't digital. I had to take the techniques I had learned this semester and apply them to a real concept. This is a piece in response to an article I read about interspecies nursing/feeding.

A design I made for my final. I used it to make a patterned wrapping paper.

I don't know what happened... really icky Jpegs.

I also experimented with making patterns using the ink blots.

Stitch

Here are a few more things I did this past semester. I took a class called Studio Remix: Stitch, and these are some things it made me come up with.

Weird Mammals!

Weird Mammals is a zine package that features 32 different strange and unusual mammals that the average American doesn't know much about. The package comes with a pack of four 1" buttons, a sticker, a letter pressed book cover and a screen printed vellum envelope.

This project was completed for the class The Lab with Whitney Sherman. It took the entire fall semester, and there were 42 copies made, and 40 sold to the public. They are now sold out. Thanks to everyone who helped support me in this huge project I took on! I couldn't have done it without you guys.

This week I did the same thing, just more detailed. These were pretty successful, I think.

I was looking back at all the drawings I did 2 years ago and how helpful all the constant practice was for me. Hopefully once this semester is over I can get back to that. I'm hoping to gain some of that precision back!

This one scanned differently for some reason, but I like it.

I like the guy with the shoes.

My least favorite for some reason.

Here are more experimentations for my Independent Study. I had a lot of fun and success this time I think. Two or three of them work really well, about two or three of them really don't.

My favorite one. I think it works best.

I like this one as well.

Alain really likes the left side of this piece, and thinks it would work well cropped.

Lab Update

I am really making progress with The Lab. The project I came up with is a book called Weird Mammals, which exploits the most rare, unknown, and interesting mammals. Each spread is a portrait of a very strange creature and some facts about them. The book will be very handmade, seeing as I do not have the money to get them printed by LuLu and will be printing them myself. Also, I am hand-making cloth envelopes to encase the books and attaching four 1" buttons to the outside.

This is my special box of tools. I take it with me everywhere.

My pigs, Gina and Pearl, were having "floor time" while I was documenting, so they are being included in this post as well.

The set of four 1" buttons that will come as a free gift with the book.

2 Gocco Screens, a Letterpress Polymer Plate, and their final products above them.

Patches might be a cool idea for something to include, but I'm not sure yet.

These will be the covers to my books. They are letter-pressed,

thanks to Kyle Van Horn for his help. The yellow didn't show up great, but

it gives off a weird feeling that I kind of enjoy.

What Pearl is sniffing is a mock-up for what my envelopes will look

like, though the fabric will be much better. That one doesn't work.

Concepts

These are some of the projects I have done so far for Concepts I. We are near midterms now and I figured I should post some of the assignments we have had for the first half of this semester.

Our first assignment was a new years card that had to be in the shape of a 10.

Mine opened up to be a monster at a disco.

I am working with Alain Corbel and he is giving me assignments about color, line and shape. So far I have had many assignments focusing on the impact of color and how black can contrast with the colors to bring more impact to an image.

Junior Year!

On the first day of my Independent Study with Alain Corbel, he suggested I made a blog for my work. It is my third year at the Maryland Institute College of Art and I feel like I am just beginning. When I came home today I got on the computer to start this blog, and have been perfecting it for hours.

Here is where I will update with new projects after they are completed, sketches of what I am thinking and planning in my head, and progress on certain semester-long projects. This semester I am taking the following courses:
